On Friday 11/11, 15 teachers, students, postdocs, and guests from UiB-GFI and iEarth gathered at Litteraturhuset to collaborate on designing assessment rubrics we can use across GFI.
Assessment rubrics are a valuable resource for both students and teachers. Students can use rubrics as concrete examples of how to secure good grades, and teachers can use the rubrics for quicker and more fair assessments and provide better feedback to students.
The workshop was organized by the HK-dir-funded project CoCreatingGFI, led by Kjersti Daae. The project's main goal is to work towards better integration of co-creation and student-staff partnership at GFI. Cathy Bovill, professor in student engagement at the University of Edinburgh and Professor II at iEarth, started the workshop by introducing the concept of co-creation. She also provided examples and inspiration for including students in assessment decision-making.
We then worked hands-on to define assessment criteria for rubrics and describe the perfect lab report, oral presentation, and term paper. We will continue the iteration towards a complete rubrics resource databank that we will share across the iEarth community.
