Hi, my name is Catherine Bovill, and I am a Senior Lecturer in Student Engagement the Institute for Academic Development (IAD) at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, UK. I am one of the Prof II/Visiting Fellows at iEarth/University of Bergen. I am also a Visiting Fellow at the University of Winchester, UK. I have been an academic/faculty developer for over 15 years and I have an eclectic background with a PhD in international development which involved fieldwork in Nepal, as well as having worked in medical education, health promotion and mental health nursing.

Currently, I lead a team in the IAD supporting programme and course design across the University of Edinburgh. I also lead and contribute to a range of University-wide strategic projects including the University’s Curriculum Transformation Programme, the annual Learning & Teaching Conference, the Principal’s Teaching Award Scheme and the University’s Student Partnership Agreement. I am a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Staff and Educational Development Association.

I regularly publish and present my work on partnership and co-creating curriculum internationally. I have previously been a Fulbright Scholar and have also performed a fringe show at the Edinburgh International Festival about student engagement. When not working hard, and when global pandemics don’t get in the way, I love travelling around the world by train.
