On the 6th of June the GeoPraksis group consisting of Iver Martens, Helge A. Vogt, Kristian B. Bakken, Kenneth Mangersnes, Jarle B. Sleire and Thomas H. Thuesen gathered at Rosendal to discuss the future of GeoPraksis.
After arriving in Rosendal with the Hardangerekspressen we quickly got started with the program for the two days by running through how GeoPraksis subjects are run at UiT, UiO and UiB.
We were lucky enough to have our meetings at the Folgefonn centre (link to their website) offices.
GeoPraksis is a national course run at UiT (GEO-2013), UiO (GEO3050) and UiB (GEOV298) for last semester bachelor students. The intention of the course is to increase work-life relevance for geologists and geophyscisits by having a 3-weeks or more internship at relevant businesses and industry partners. At UiT and UiB students are given 3 weeks at an industry partner, while at UiO they have an hourly-based system where you have to log 250 hours of work. Outside of the internships the students learn how to write applications and CVs, understand where they can work after finishing their education and get familiar with expectations, demands and competences in the industry.
The discussions at Rosendal mainly focused on three things:
It was a great few days with many good discussions
