For their final assignment, the 26 GeoPraksis students at UiB were tasked with creating posters that showcased their internship experience at our partner companies.
A part of this assignment was formulating and answering a question related to the business where they had internships. They were then told to present these findings at a GeoIntern mini-conference. The 2-hour event, held on the 22nd of May in Auditorium 5 at the Department of Earth Science, was open to all members of staff and included lunch for the participants. Each student had a few minutes to advertise their poster – presenting key findings and sharing some core internship memories, after which there was time for a more traditional poster- and mingling session where staff members had the opportunity to ask questions.
Everyone performed brilliantly and the event was a huge success. The day ended with a discussion on the current state of our curriculum and what measures can be taken to make sure our students have the necessary knowledge and skills for when they leave university and enter the workforce. Lastly, course responsible assistant professor Kenneth Mangersnes said some final words of encouragement for the students as they are heading for master’s studies and thanked them for a great semester.
