We welcome students and teachers to this years GeoLearning Forum 2024 on the 7-8th of November 2024 at Radisson Blu in Tromsø.

This years theme is "A changing education" and we will have three keynote presenters, several interesting discussions about student active teaching and a wide range of topics. We encourage students and teachers to sign-up for this years event and hope to get many participants.

We will also have a session were you'll be able to discuss your own teaching with colleagues from other universities and institutes and hope to group persons within the same disciplines/topics.

Maximum participants: 100 - first come, first served. A certain amount of spots will be set aside for each institution as well as for students and teachers/staff which has been determined by the iEarth leader group.

There will be several tables in the conference room, each table will have a number and a table leader, the number will represent a theme that will be announced in the

  7. Field teaching assistant academy with Anna Pienkowski.
  8. Student involvement in developing courses with Kaja F. Ruud

  1. How to make fieldwork more active: active learning in fieldwork with Mariana Stark de Alencar
  2. Local field laboratories with Jarle Sleire and Kenneth Mangersnes
  3. Co-creation and assessment with Kjersti B. Daae.
  4. Cultural change in geoscience education with Carly Faber
  5. LIfe-long teaching and learning in a changing society: EVU courses at the Department of Earth Science, UiB with Atle Rotevatn.
  6. What are the challenges students face in their 1st year with Åse and Per.
  7. Environmental impact of excursions and fieldwork with Danique Wetzels
  8. How to teach big classes in Earth Science? Examples from "GEOV101 - Introduction to geology" at UiB.
  9. A student teacher collaboration in evaluating university snow science courses with Nilas Mikkelsen

Field excursion

Regarding the excursion on thursday 7th at 09:15.

Take bus 33 from Bankgata bus stop in the city centre and meet at Telegrafbukta bus stop by 09:15.

All participants will receive the iEarth local field laboratory guide for Telegrafbukta by e-mail and are welcome to use it for a self-guided field trip at any time during GLF.

Travel to Tromsø

iEarth will cover your travel and one night stay at the conference hotel (special terms apply to the UNIS delegation due to limited flights).

After the registration deadline, 20. september, everyone that signed up will get an e-mail confirming that they've been accepted to the conference. If you choose to have flights booked for you, this will also be sent per e-mail. PS: Flight tickets are non-refundable

Disclaimer: Please be aware that in case of a no-show or cancellation after 15th of October 2024, participants will be invoiced for travel and accomodation costs (hotel accommodation is 1695 NOK per night).

Travel from Tromsø Airport (Tromsø Lufthavn) to Radisson Blu (Bankgata) can be found at https://svipper.no and you can download the app to buy a ticket. Bus ride takes ca. 15 mins.
