Ideas to secure that our students get important field experience when field courses have been cancelled

 

Dear all geoscientific instructors,

 

The present circumstances have changed how we can teach and given us new challenges of how to give our students the best possibilities to learn. To help and inspire each other it is now important that we share solutions, technology and ideas for out teaching. iEarth is a natural meeting point for geoscientific instructors in Norway and we invite you do join our iEarth digital learning forum.

 

To get this started we want to invite you to the first meeting already this week!

The agenda:

12:15 – Jostein Bakke: the importance of sharing and about iEarth digital learning forum

12:20 – Lena Håkansson: The idea behind Virtual field guides and the use of them

12:30 – Anders Mattias Lundmark: Virtual field guide – Example of use

12:40 – Joachim Jacobs: Replacing field course with student chosen, local and independent field work

12:50 – Helge Drange: From chalk to bytes over night; experience with Kaltura and Zoom from a 1 Mbps out-line

 

In addition to this meeting we also want to invite all to join the Team “iEarth digital learning forum”.

The aim:

  • A Teams to meet, share and get inspiration
  • We encourage everyone to share; send links, share documents, chat etc.
  • We will arrange regular meetings with topics related to our teaching

 

To become a member of the Teams channel “iEarth digital learning forum”, just email iEarth@uib.no. You can join meeting without being a member of the Team, but unfortunately it prevents you from using the chat-function during the meeting.
